Buy and hold, with one lingering question
My portfolio consists mostly of ETFs and a few individual stocks. I invest for the long term and do not want to track prices, announcements and company data every day.
That approach suits me. Still, there are moments when I should look more closely. One holding has risen sharply. Another has fallen. With an ETF, I may wonder how much of it now depends on the same companies, industries or regions as my other funds.
Answering those questions properly means reading news, checking data and comparing ETF holdings. In daily life, I often put that work off.
Tickerbit helps me decide where the research is worth doing now.
The idea: a weekly filter
I did not want constant alerts or a bot telling me what to buy and sell.
I pictured Tickerbit as a weekly research session someone had already prepared: what changed, what might matter for my portfolio, and which position deserves a closer look?
I enter my holdings, time horizon and long-term goals. Tickerbit researches companies, funds and markets. For ETFs, it also looks at the underlying holdings, sectors and regions. That exposes overlaps a single fund price does not show.
How I actually use it
Once a week, I read the new review. Often the most useful message is simply that little has changed.
Sometimes it surfaces something I would not have noticed. I then open the sources and investigate further. Tickerbit does not make the decision. It shortens the search for the questions worth asking.
This experiment needs time
One good report proves very little. The real test is whether the selection remains useful for months. Does Tickerbit highlight meaningful changes, repeat market noise, or miss something that later looks obvious?
That is why the project remains in beta and mainly runs on my own portfolio. Data quality varies between securities, and I am still adjusting how news and market movements are weighted.
